Air Crew Europe Star

Awarded for operational flying from the United Kingdom over Europe between 3 September 1939 and 5 June 1944, the eve of D-Day, after which such service was covered instead by the France and Germany Star. Among the most sought-after campaign stars, as its window was narrow and its qualification hard: two months of operational flying, on top of prior qualification for the 1939-45 Star, in the years when Bomber Command’s losses were at their most severe. Note: the full-size medal is struck in a gold-tone finish; the miniature is bronze-tone, matching original wartime issue conventions.
